The bassist and composer André Carvalho, a native from Portugal, recently relocated to New York. With two releases under his name, Carvalho has been intensely dedicated to composition since he first picked up the bass. He has a special vision in conjuring his own groups and he is currently preparing and composing for his first stateside release.
His first two albums, "Hajime" and "Memória de Amiba" show Carvalho Ìs highly personal perspective in music featuring an original blend of contemporary jazz with elements from Portuguese music. Both projects got raving reviews from Portuguese and International media. André was awarded the prize "Carlos Paredes" in 2012, a prestigious prize that recognizes Portuguese music projects, as well as a "Best Group" recognition in the Bucharest International Jazz Competition.
